The Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) is the largest ISO in the country and controls the electrical power grid for most of the Midwest United States. The control center and support spaces for telecommunications, computer systems and UPS systems are vital to the facility's purpose and must be operational at all times. Keenan Development was called on for its expertise to arrange the design/build/finance development.
The approximately 100,000-square-foot mission critical facility includes a data center, Class A office space, training areas, boardrooms and executive offices. The control center is a self contained "hardened" structure capable of withstanding a Category 4 tornado. These precautions are essential as the center houses a state-of-the-art operation where electrical transactions across the Midwest power grid are tracked, monitored and scheduled. All vital mechanical and electrical systems are also housed within the hardened structure. The facility houses more than $50 million in computer and control equipment.
To ensure continuous operation, the facility was equipped with two independent electrical feeds (each capable of carrying the facility's full electrical load) and emergency back-up power. Redundancy was implemented for all building systems.

As is the case with all Keenan Development projects, the Midwest ISO Headquarters and Control Center facility was completed on time and within budget.
